My name is Nancy Thomas, and I am a wife, homeschooler, and mother to nine amazing people. While four have found their way to their own kitchen tables, there are still five that gather nightly around mine. One of our most favorite things in the world is to welcome all of our kids back to the table for food, drinks, and much laughter.
Back in the day, when I was asked, “what do you want to do with your life” I always knew. I wanted a huge kitchen table with lots of smiling faces and big bowls of homemade food. Mashed potatoes. There was always heaping bowls of mashed potatoes in my mind’s eye. I’m not sure why potatoes, but they ended up on my table every week so…
The lucky part was that I married a great guy that wanted the same thing. Big family, lots of laughter. We started with a “plan” of 4 kids (we’re Catholic!) and I got to decide if I wanted more. You can tell how that ended up.
So here we are 30+ years later with four sons and five daughters, a daughter-in-law and a son-in-law. And an unbelievably old chocolate lab that keeps wagging her tail. We’ve had an amazing ride from when we started this journey in Florida to finally land in a small town in Maine, looking for a great place to raise our brood. We found that place…our kitchen table.
I hope you enjoy some of what we’ve learned.
